Statement of Inclusivity

Striving to be an inclusive church

A core mission of our church is to be followers of Jesus Christ. The Jesus we have come to know is poor and among the outcast of society. In faithfulness to God and because of love, Jesus crossed barriers of race, class, gender roles and identities, ethnicity and religion. He wanted people to know – especially people who were marginalized in society—that they were precious and that they belonged to God. As followers of Christ, we want to do the same. We want people to know they are God’s beloved. In our worship, our community time, and our daily lives, we strive to cross the lines that separate us from each other. This is why at Tabernacle we hope to be a community where those who have felt left out or demonized by the church and/or society can find acceptance and belonging.

We belong to God. We belong to Christ. And we belong to each other.

We don’t pretend to have arrived at our vision of radical inclusion. But we are committed to the vision and the struggle to live into that vision.
